#13 Stretchy to Collected

Is this a helpful exercise?

Appropriate Gaits:  Walk, Trot

Instructions:

Ride around the ring.  As you are riding, ask for 20 seconds of stretchy work then ask for 20 seconds of collected work.

Repeat: 5 sets

Tip: Collect by half halting, asking for more vertical and engaged motion.

Tip: Require politeness while stretching.  Your horse should gently put their nose out to the end of the rein.  If they drag you out of the saddle by forcefully dropping their head, that is called “rooting”.  Discourage it by holding the reins firmly.

Focus: Keep the rhythm the same whether stretching or collecting.

 

Good for: Relaxation, connection, collection.
