#9 Bicycling

Is this a helpful exercise?

Appropriate gaits: Walk, Trot

Instructions:

Move your lower leg and knee in a bicycling motion in time with the horse’s gait.  This is a small 1-2” motion in which the knee and ankle move vertically up and down the saddle flap.

Repeat: 3 x 30 seconds (or until tired)

Focus: No gripping with your knee (free movement)

Focus: On down beats, step downward.

Focus: Engage your core for stability.

Focus: Use this exercise during sitting trot to stabilize yourself.

Focus: Use this exercise during sitting trot without stirrups to stabilize yourself.

Good for: Gripping with knees.  Balance.
